Zig-A-Zag-Ah

A couple weeks ago I repainted the frame of my fireplace to mirror the decorative chevron pattern in the bricks used to render it functionless. I sent a photo to my fabulous designer friend Gabriel and he immediately replied "Missoni"!

His eye read "zig-zags" and I've been encountering them ever since!

Does that ever happen to you? Last year it was circles and dots in this post... Stay tuned for more recurrent observations!

Dwell On Design/Desire More Stuff - LA Convention Center

The Dwell On Design expo at the LA Convention Center this weekend offered many solutions to make  everyday life more harmonious with style, but none were quite as impressive to me as the Crystal Bubble Collection designed by  California firm Casa Bubble. In order to keep its shape, air is quietly blown by a specially designed turbine which uses less electricity per hour than a lightbulb and manages to keep out pollen, humidity and condensation.

Can you imagine waking in a giant bubble surrounded by the view of a field or dense forest? Or falling asleep under the stars in futuristic comfort and design? I can. Or how about accommodating overnight guests? Glamping?

This furniture reminds me of the blow up furniture I used to have for my barbies!

Maybe he could serve us breakfast?

How about this for the backyard?

These are a more colorful option with the same comfort level.

They'd look great poolside in this Leggo dream home

I love to see how a fashion designer's aesthetic translates into home design...

And how food translates into furniture - like this sushi roll "pouf"!

It was fun to meander the rows and rows of exhibitors... Dwell's magazine pages came to life as my imagination took hold and my heart yearned for more and more stuff!

How about you? Did you see or buy some good stuff this weekend?

Strolling The Border - Los Feliz/Silver Lake

chandeliers dangling in a tree - Silver Lake

If you are a regular follower of my blog you'll know I live in the very artsy Los Feliz neighborhood of LA, which is just east of Hollywood. You may be aware of the uber-trendy Silver Lake hood that borders us. This area East Side Cool and no matter how many times I move away something always draws me back... This morning - en route to my current favorite latte spot "Broome Street General Store" -  I was armed with my camera, eyes peeled in search of a "Double Delight" rose to photograph, when I began to notice little reminders of why it is I live in this section of LA. An hour's stroll began to reveal the individuality of Los Feliz and Silver Lake's inhabitants.  Who are the people in your neighborhood? Creative, eclectic, diverse!
