San Marino is a very affluent, tiny city adjacent to Pasadena. Picture 1920's mansions built on impeccably groomed properties lining wide streets and parkways... Mission Street is "Main Street" to San Marino, bustling with quaint little shops and salons. For the last 26 years Julienne is it's most notable fixture. I've been a patron since '94! I keep coming back because the food is as lovely as the presentation, the service is impeccable (although our waiter neglected to offer the new lavender lemonade as an option), and the rosemary raisin bread is to die! There is a luscious gourmet market adjoining the cafe where I used to pick up food to bring to the neighboring park. They also enhance any Hollywood Bowl experience by offering THE best baskets! LA is a huge sprawling city and if this destination pushes your boundaries a little further east than you are accustomed you can make a day of it! Sandwich it between a stroll in the gardens at Huntington Library and a little shopping on Mission. You'll need to work up an appetite beforehand, and walk off your lunch afterward - because there is NO way you can turn down that desert tray!!
violet candies from France and butter caramels
sweet food to go
You can purchase the famous rosemary raisin bread - I can't wait for breakfast!
household items mix with imported oils and condiments
savory food to go
buttered rosemary raisin bread
Grilled Fillet of Beef Cob Salad with Paprika Vinaigrette
Chilled Gazpacho and Albacore Tuna Sandwich
don't say I didn't warn you...!
A table for two on the sidewalk cafe.
As you may know - whenever possible I like to end with desert...
If Julienne is more than a freeway or two away, don't despair! You can purchase the cookbook by founder Susan Campoy here.
